Phil, Can I interest you in a game called "Let's Pretend"? Let's pretend you and I are running a public company that for the past two years has been trying to get its act together. Our company has been working on defining what business it wants to be in, and at the same time, trying to scrape a few sheckles together to fend off a number of impatient vendors and something called the IRS. During that time we sent out a bunch of PR's, some of which confounded our shareholders. Earlier this year we discovered we were getting too big for our britches, and had to get lean and mean very quickly. We were working in the basement and decided our little company should at least climb one flight of stairs. And climb those stairs we did! We found a few business partners who believed in and stuck with us. Then a couple of financial mountain climbers showed up, looked us over, said "we like what you guys are doing", and let out a little rope to help us get over the last hill. Remember the bon voyage party we had back in late August? What a great time that was! A couple of weeks have gone by, and now we're finally into the execution stage. The bills are starting to get paid. Our business partners have helped us with our presentation to their members. New deals are brewing. But Phil, something isn't right. We need to talk. Our shareholders are clamoring for more information! They really are a pretty good bunch, but this can cause some serious problems. First, we are now so busy that it's difficult to find time to respond to every single inquiry. We have tried to do a good job in the past, but now it's time to focus on the business. We keep getting inquires on the photo card, and keep telling them it's in beta. You know Phil, every other business I've been involved in used beta testing with a limited group before fully introducing the product. And those businesses kept it very low key until they were confident that the product was debugged and ready for introduction. I wish our shareholders would be a little more patient. You know, SI recently went through a beta test before upgrading their website. It's doubtful that everyone of our shareholders who use SI were part of the beta test. I wonder what SI told their users who were not part of the beta test when they asked to be included? Like I said Phil, it's a lot tougher now with a going business to take as much time as we used to. Let me ask you a question. Are we legally obligated to put out a press release on everything we do? Here's why I ask. We now know that this business model is going to work. We both have had experience with internet copycats who have no compunction about stealing someone else's ideas. Do we really want to publish all our hard earned trade secrets so these leeches can start to steal our business. They are going to try anyway, but let's at least slow them down a bit. We are going to have some good things to report on our third quarter 10-Q. Let's keep them guessing for a little longer. "Let's Pretend" John
