Lindy made an interesting comment (somewhere.....Q thread?) about Q being the best "lock" he has seen. I'd like to believe that and wonder if he can amplify how and why the Q lock is better than the locks of other gorillas

Basic Patents

CISCO: They wrote the code for Internet routing, and all equipment must be "Cisco compatible". No Royalties or license needed.

INTEL: They invented the '86 chip. You can back-engineer it, if you can, but you must be compatible. No Royalties or license needed.

MICROSOFT: They own the Software patents for "Windows" and the OS. You cannot sell it against them.

QUALCOMM: They own the patents on CDMA, and you must pay them a royalty. You cannot "back-engineer" it.

Market Change

CISCO: A "next Generation" routing system would have to be compatible to Cisco.

INTEL: Must work like the Intel chip.

MICROSOFT: Would have to be in competition to softy: Linux or Java, etc.

QUALCOMM: Technological break though on the magnitude of CDMA needed.

Execution

CISCO, INTEL, MICROSOFT: The best in each of their respective Industries:

QUALCOMM: Has "crossed the chasm" with a major scientific break though in the face of organized Industry opposition from all of the major players.

MAJOR CHALLENGE: To get the Industry to implement CDMA instead of staying with present systems.
