Dear JDN: For a home user, browsing the internet, sending email, managing your finance is pretty much all you need. Maybe you have to use office as well for some writing letter, doing spreadsheet ... Think about it, you have to pay $89 for the OS, maybe $300 for office. That's about $400 right there.

If you pay $80 for a full Red Hat Linux distribution CD. You get the OS, StarOffice, a full development suite (equivalent to the Microsoft Visual Studio which I use to develop my application and cost $300 separately.) Can you see what's the difference? Linux is 10 times cheaper than Windows, and offers more reliability than Windows. That's why for me, it's a big deal.
