Neil,

<<Considering the extremely astute nature of Brocade's leadership does anyone really think they would have come public without having bagged at least several quarters's of accelerating advances in top line growth- at the very minimum enough to support an exit strategy and complete the Silicon Valley venture capital enabling cycle. After that, will anyone at Brocade even care about SW fibre channel market share ?>>

Are you suggesting that Greg Reyes may not be CEO-for-Life at Brocade?

From the October 99 issue of Red Herring (p 111) on "The Inner Circle" on nine of high tech's power brokers: The recruiter Ken Virnig.

"These days Ken Virnig of Devine & Virnig is near the top of everybody's list. Ninety-five percent of his firm's clients are startups, and he has landed CEOs for MMC Networks, StratumOne, Accue Software, and Documentum. Last year Mr. Virnig recruited Gregory Reyes to be CEO of Brocade Communications Systens. In May Brocade went public and now has a $3 billion valuation."

Are you also suggesting that if Mr. Reyes plays his cards right for the next few months, he may get another opportunity to take another startup public in the next year or two?

Are the actions of a CEO who expects to lead his company for a few more months different from the actions of a CEO who expects to lead his company for a few more years?

It's clear I haven't a clue how the game is played.

Greg
