Precisely and as (almost) always.

Great post, moat; thanks. ...Tim

QUALCOMM will no doubt put pressure on Motorola and Nokia to sign a royalty bearing license for 3 Generation CDMA2000/WCDMA products as the Handset Divisions sale looms large.Whom ever the buyer turns out to be European,Asian or domestic they will face the heat as the newly owned division starts putting out advanced (3G)CDMA products ahead of the "Big Two" with the full backing of QUALCOMM's latest and best CDMA ASIC's running the products.Nokia and Motorola currently have no 3G CDMA license.

Although maybe OT I want to express my thanks (publically) to you and others who have been posting over these past eventful days. With a not insubstantial position in QCOM, all of this very fine analysis (pro, con and neutral) helps me keep my head straight.

We had a very significant event this week. Value was unlocked. By the time it's all in black and white the price will not be the same.

Excellent points, moat! And the value could be magnified significantly by the selection of a handset partner with the right strategic fit. In that regard, shall we speculate just a little more? A European seems unnecessary given the ongoing relationship with Ericsson in infrastructure. The key to Europe is thru infrastructure more than handsets, IMO. A domestic partner may very well have similar noncompetitive costs of doing business as Q/Sony when confronted with the global marketplace. So, maybe an Asian partner in handsets? Whatever, I have complete faith in management to do this right.

If a deal is to close by the end of the year, we should hear reasonably soon, like weeks rather than months. My guess is that they have been talking for some time, hence the rumors. (I also believe Dr. J when he says they just recently decided to sell...or transform, or...) This is exciting, and as you say, "by the time it's all in black and white the price will not be the same."

Best,

jack
