Ike,

I've done a lot of selling over the last few years and despite the overall market heights I still find stocks that appear reasonably priced to me. I don't sell because of bearishness on the market because I have no real basis for thinking I'm right. Just a lot of thoughts, suspicions, and economic concerns. I mostly let the values and after tax proceeds dictate my decisions. My thoughts on the market probably don't influence me much except in very marginal decisions. I have a large cash position and a few short options positions just in case I'm right. (Ho Ho Ho)

In recent months I bought all the following:

Flowers Industries (FLO). It's written up in Barrons this week. My rationale is the same.

Interstate Bakeries (IBC)

Velcro Industries (VELCF)

Bergen Brunswick (BBC)

Mercury General (MCY)

They were all beaten down out of favor stocks that I believed were suffering from temporary operating difficulties or cyclical industry downturns when I purchased them.

BBC is getting a bit cheaper. (ouch) I'm /betting on/hoping for/ changes in the law that is impacting their recent acquisitions negatively. I may have erred here. I should have seen that they overpaid. At a minimum I should have understood the implications of the changes in the law better. This is what happens when you tread into unchartered waters. I'm in the hole a few points on this one.

Velcro was cheap for no reason I could find.

I'll find out if I've made any good moves or major errors over the next 3-5 years. That's my investment time horizon on these guys.

Wayne

Ike,

There are two other stocks I recently bought that I didn't remember off the top of my head the last time.

Dave and Busters (DAB)

Allied Domecq (sp?) (ALDCY)
