Frank,

Nothing would please me more than to see a break through 50. It has been tough since February of this year, although arguably the highs of February were due to irrational exuberance. I am looking for another 100% year in Dell this year, though. Dell started the year at $36 and change.

With Compaq on the skids temporarily, it seems that there is nothing that can stop an additional market share gain by Dell. Perhaps by the end of the year Compaq will be back on track, but for now it looks pretty convincing for Dell. The keys for success for Dell are always the same - push on the direct model, fine-tune the process, push ahead to stay one step ahead of everyone else. Dell has some pretty sharp people looking to do exactly these things. Complacency is not part of their vocabulary.

That said, I don't think that this news by itself is enough to propel the share price. The share price ought to grow but the current investor climate is such that probably the only thing that will really propel the stock market in general and Dell in particular is an acknowledgement by the Fed that inflation is under control, i.e. not raising rates and stating a neutral bias (oxymoron, actually, stating no bias). Today's investors, with today's tools and news sources, tend to over-react in a naive fashion to the news of the day.
