Agree with your analysis. Particularly the point that selling ASICs internally for lower transfer price when they could not sell all they could make was a valid move. Marginal cost less than marginal profit equals more profit.
Falling ASPs plus explosive demand for ASICs shifted the game.

When Dr. J. said they expected to sell the hs div in a couple of years, I suspect even they may have been surprised by the explosiveness of the growth. I guess this is what the Gorilla Game folks meant when they coined the term "being in the tornado."
