OT:

Hi Mephisto: I'm back from Yosemite, just in time for a bloodbath on Wall Street it appears. Still, nothing like a correction to sort out the solid stocks from the garbage.

We went to the Upper Yosemite Tuolumne area (pronounced tw-lo-me I think) for camping and hiking. We didn't see any bears, but we had to be very careful to lock all our food and bathroom stuff in a sturdy steel box with a latch and chain to prevent the bears from getting it. They will rip your car door off if you try leaving food in the car, the ranger stations have some impressive photos of this from previous years. My wife claims to have heard a bear stop by and rattle the chain on our box, but I was asleep so I can't vouch for it.

I have to say that having been to many places around the world, the Tuolumne meadows is the most striking place I've seen. Much more so than the more famous Yosemite Valley, if you can believe that, because there's a lot more of it, and it isn't overcrowded.
