She ran away so many times that she was placed at a home for girls, which in those days was not too bad a place. Unfortunately, one day she was savagely raped in the stairway and left for dead. That has given her lifelong and unbending racial hatred. Other than that, we are "somewhat" aware of the teenage runaway problem and have supported the Covenant House. They do a great job but it's like putting a bandaide on a large wound, IMHO. I wonder how many of your adult runaway friends are carrying around deep wounds from their bad experiences. Do your friends ever talk about what happened to them?
