1 million years ago It appears from the evidence, that tools were used by proto-humans several million years ago. The tool was a rock. There are many indications (and not it's not proven as certainly as 2+2=4) that upright apes would surround prey, or the fresh kill of other animals, and throw rocks thereby driving off any competition. The evidence is that of a large number of roughly baseball sized rocks gathered from all around the area to specific killing fields. TP
