Carl,

I didn't in any way mean to imply that the SOES shops were not good for some people. I certainly hope that all are not like the samples we have seen on TV. If it works for you, I say go for it!

As for the learning... I've read and own a number of books which interview the truly long term successful traders in this business. All are different. Some trade from an office (usually their own with their own staff, etc., but a fertile environment for learning like you alluded to nevertheless), and some like the quiet focused environment that only trading at home can offer. All are continually learning. That is the beauty of this business-- it never gets old. Just when we get the market "figured out", it changes.

I, while not having the stimulus of a room full of other traders find that my "fresh input" must come from other sources. I read about 500 pages of "professional" or trading literature weekly. I spend a good deal of time reading from other professionals here on SI. And as a guy flying solo, I have the challenge of having to solve a problem when something is not working right. I've yet to converse with a real trading professional who thinks he or she has all the answers.

Finally, I didn't mean to come off like I was challenging the concept of trading with a group of others professionals. I think it's great if it fits your personality and provides you with the opportunity to be all you can be (I know it will never substitute for the army <gg>). I guess that I am so happy with my setup I came off as if it's the best way. Sorry if I sounded like my way was the only way. This is a very personal business as well.

Matt
