T blew it with frame relay and WCOM was born. The reason was that frame relay,at the outset, didn't appear to be a big impact to T revenues. They therefore felt that the lost business would be less of an impact than churning their leased line customers to frame relay. Well, we all know what happened....and now T has the largest frame relay network in the world and WCOM is a force in business networks.

ISP's, who make their $$$ on internet access are already offering free telephone calls. When enough users are using the web or CLEC multiservice IP networks for their traffic needs T will need to respond. When we're talking about multiservice networks whether it's free voice or free data the bone is the same. Get off the single purpose infrastructure and migrate to a multiservice one. It might be the lure of free voice or free data service that get's you there..but once your there Cisco has succeeded. BTW: T will need to do something to get users on their multiservice cable infrastructure - what will it be? Lower cost voice or lower cost data? How will the CLEC's and ILEC respond (those offereing DSL). Looks like the makings for a price war to me. Will voice be offered for free??? What do you think?

I just got DSL installed at my home. Will be adding IP telephones next month. With that I'll probably maintain my circuit switch connection as an overlay for a few months...then bye-bye Pac Bell! Can't wait till T/TCI come to my home with a multiservice cable connection!!!!
