Oops, did some checking-house.gov FCC INTERNET TAX A HOAX -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There is NO bill currently before Congress calling for a Post Office Surcharge on Email! Over the past few months, a rumor has circulated through our nation's email system which states that, in response to the revenues it has lost due to email, the United States Post Office was supporting bill 602P, as sponsored by Congressman Tony Schnell, which would allow them to collect fees from email use. This is absolutely no truth to this rumor and there is no such Member of Congress named Tony Schnell. Furthermore, bills that come before the House of Representatives are listed as HR 602 or House Resolution 602, not 602P. Please know that I have very strong concerns with any attempt to tax individuals for email usage. In addition, if any bill to place taxes or charges for email usage is introduced, I would immediatly express my displeasure with my colleagues on the Commerce Committee, the committee of jurisdiction over this matter. For information from the United States Postal Service on the email surcharge rumor, click here or on the stamp below to go to the USPS web site. Again, let me convey to you in the strongest way possible, There is NO bill currently before Congress calling for Post Office surcharge on emails! Click on the stamp to link to the USPS response to the email surcharge hoax.
