Lather.Rinse.Repeat.I am a realist; Explain---->>> LRR I am a realist; I am a scientist; I am trained (12 years + High School, gg ) to look at objective evidence and then iterpret it. After looking at objective evidence then I do the same thing that Darwin did->> draw a Theory and see if it is usable. Most theories that end up reflecting acurately reality then become reality. On of the Theories that I subscribe to is the Theory that if there is no God everything is permitted ( and by God that I mean the charitable/loving Judeo-Christian God ). I am convinced that that theory has been proven correct. I asked you to prove it, jokingly so . I don't need to you to prove it to me because it is correct. The reason it is correct is because it meets all the criteria that define science: it is reproducible. -under the same experimental conditions you get the same results. -others repeating the experiment get the same result. What am I talking about? Societal events. Wars. Examples Russia eliminated God under Communism. Their Moral Guidelines were spelled out by the Communist Manifesto and they proceeded to act on that: -took away all private property -killed those that had private property ( starting with the Czar + kids ). -killed or put in mental hospitals all that disagreed with them. This experiment in Communist Morality was then scientifically reproduced by others elsewhere under the same circumstances: China is one big example. Then Hungary; Poland; Bulgaria; on and on There other types of Moral Standards LRR: -we have The Hedonists in ancient Greece. -we have the Incas whose God & morality required the sacrifice of children to their God.So the morality of a community in essence varies from place to place and from time to time. All kinds of atrocities and wrongs have been committed by man on man in the name of some moral standard. Now in the case of Dawkin's Selfish Gene Theory his take is that this gene, or group of genes , or group of people having these genes , or societies having these similar genes will function looking out for No one, i.e., themselves. Why is it hard for you to accept that Russia and Germany acted in their own best interest? Or ancient Rome for that matter? And why can't you ( and Dawkins ? ) accept the fact that ancient Rome and Germany and China were perfectly correct in doing what they did when you look at it fron the viewpoint of looking out for their self intest , ie survival of the fittest, the hallmark of Darwin's Theory and the Theory of natural selection? Here is their interest: They conquer another nation, kill everybody off, or turn them into slaves; grab all their property; rape the women; burn what you can't take with you. Then you return to the motherland ( ancient Rome ) and enjoy ( all of US together now, our great Roman society ) the fruits of our labor. We now no longer have to compete for scarce resources, food, oil, trees, gold, with other obnoxious people who are different from us and clearly not as wise or as powerful as us. Let us " sterilize " the world is the word German physicians used when they killed off people. This is just another form of natural selection isn't it or survival of the fittest. No question about it. Comments from others who disagree are welcome TAMessage #843 from Lather.Rinse.Repeat. at Sep 19 1999 11:59AM My answers. 1) Somebody hasn't been paying attention ... I've been saying that Proveit is a waste of everybosdy's time. Stop setting up Impossibles as if you gain anything from them. All you gain is recognition that you aren't listening - or worse, are silently dismissing the rebuttals to your prepackaged polemic. 2) It would look as it looks now. Pretending that the Selfish Gene model leads to Bikerworld is breathtakingly naive. If everything is permitted (and it IS! Show me an example of the Universe stopping immoral but physically feasible behavior, e.g. the garbage in Rwanda) then it becomes possible for you to become completely amoral. But you are quickly alienated or even hunted by your tribemates. A truce develops if there is going to be community ... and through several such iterations societies develop. This is the logical consequence of Everything Being Permitted; it is all logically consistent. But I am worried that the point will be lost since you apparently filter everything through a Truth Test that is not empirical but doctrinal. In time, the fitter world interpretation will prevail.
