<< my question is, why do some factions insist that every word in the bible is hard science? >>

Many Christians have maintained that the bible was written by man, thru God. They maintain that it is God's word. So, if there is one error in the bible, then it can't be the word of God. God doesn't make mistakes.

God knew that we would have PCs during the 20th century, but there is no mention of PCs in the bible. God knew that we would have wireless communications in the 20th century, but there is no mention of this in the bible. Nor is there any mention of cars or machine guns or polio vaccines or hula hoops, even though God knew that these things were coming.

God also knew that Microsoft and Intel would be great investments in the 20th century. Why didn't he tell people in the bible to invest in these two stocks. In fact, I don't even think that stocks are discussed in the bible. <g>

I would hope that, in Kansas, they would discuss alternatives to God's decision to have Christ crucified.

For instance, could God have found another way to forgive mankind's sins other then to wait over 20 years for his son to develop, so that he could have him killed? Or, was this God's only option?

Michelle Harris, Re: Bible is "flawed","written by men">

That is a flawed statement as far as the Catholic Church is concerned.( don't know about other Churches ).

May I suggest you pick up any Catholic Bible ( has to have Vatican's imprimatur on 1st page/title page ).

Read the introduction.

All copies will begin with the following sentence:

The Bible is The Word of God.

Period.

No qualifiers.

The Catholic Church's official position on the Bible is that it was written by God.It was inspired by The Holy Spirit ( God ).The Apostles only held the pen.

Millions of people don't know and don't understand this and keep blaming the Catholic Church for positions that it takes which by and large are literal interpretations of the Bible, in regards to matters of the spirit and thought and actions.

This is why the Catholic Church's position in most ,matters has not changed in 2000 years: it is tied to what is written in the bible,

Robert... you and I are on the same page... of course imo the Bible is one of the worlds greatest books I've never read the Koran, etc.), the stories are
fabulous and have stood the test of time... but it can't be taken literally, and it was written by men so by definition it is flawed in some ways... my question
is, why do some factions insist that every word in the bible is hard science?

Its as if in order to believe the bible, some feel the need to insist it is accurate scientifically. Did the notion of scientific hypothesis exist at the time of the
Bible? Perhaps the real issue is applying the scientific methods of today to a 2000 yr old book, and that is at best naive, at worst lunacy.....
