Yeah, we've worked on that one a long time! For the safety of the dog primarily, having a dog that will be "steady" like that is necessary when hunting so I started training her very early on steadiness. I've only really "blown-it" with her training in one area, and that is trying to get her used to dealing with distractions. One way you teach this is to have your pup sit, and then walk in circles around her. Later, you make her sit and then you walk away and hide behind a tree, or the house or whatever...increasing the length of time you leave her. And a later step is when you do this, you have strangers, other dogs, and other distractions go by her. If she can make it through that, she's doing great! I ignored some of this training in her early puppyhood, so now I pay for it when I take her into the field with other people and dogs nearby. She wants to explore everything around her...especially other people and animals. If we're alone, she's fine.
Anyway, we are working on this and she's still very young (only 7 months) so she's just being a pup and eventually she'll learn it. Her first duck hunt comes in 3 weeks...that will be the real test!

***** TO ALL TECHRIDERS *****

Ok, well, I've mentioned this before, but now I want to throw it out there again since we're getting closer.

There are several of us SI'ers meeting in Vegas on the 19th-22nd of November at the MGM Grand. Many of my pals from the P&F world will be there (Jorj X McKie, Ms.X, Lost1, Tommy Dorsey, and others) and a couple of GNET fans have confirmed their intention to come too. I'm really looking forward to meeting Carolyn and possibly BLUE there, but I also want a chance to meet some of you other Techriders there! It's going to be a good time...no formal meetings to attend...no itinerary to keep. Just get together around some slots, dice, shows, food and fun! I sure hope some of you can make it. It's a great chance to put a face with a screename! Whatcha' say???!!

-Joe
