plenty of time for Lucent Technologies (LU) and Motorola (MOT) to send their smartest engineers out to design chips that can go around Qualcomm's patents. "None of us know" what new engineering will occur in the interim

I pulled this from the article on "shorts" on MS Money, because it is such a common perception that people have that Q is just another Tech Co.

CDMA is not "Maxwell's equations", but it is damn near at that level. It is a basic discovery in Physics. That is one of the reasons they had to fight so hard to get it accepted. A lot of PHD's in EE did not believe it would work.

As most of us know, you can't "engineer" around their patents. That is what a lot of the lawsuits were about, and it is settled. The chances of someone making a basic discovery in Physics that would outmode Q is not impossible, but it is highly improbable. We would have a long lead time on the stock, to make a move, if it did happen.
