Hey Gang, here is a post from Tero, and a response from Gregg Powers on the Nokia thread.

If the links do not work, go to the Nokia thread and put in the above numbers. This is really mandatory for a Q investor.

Mike,

Is there an aspect of Gemstar's technology that enables competitors' applications? If so, that would prove my contention that the technology is a hybrid enabler/applications product.

Sony, Thomson, Hughes and others have their own native guides in their satellite boxes under various names but you will see Gemstar licensed features such as one-touch tune, one-button record and a PIP guide feature that allows the viewer to search and watch TV simultaneously. I refer to this and some other Gemstar IP as enabling but defer to you and the others for its Gorilla Game interpretation.

Regards
Stew

re:Gemstar

Mike, doesn't the outcome of the TV Guide litigation determine whether the IPG area is a Gorilla Game or a Royalty Game? A GMST loss,or even the joint venture settlement which is being talked about, would leave 2 strong competitors to divide up the market. TV Guide has already signed a 10 year exclusive with ATT/TCI to use TV Guide's IPG in all ATT/TCI's owned and operated cable systems. Without access to this important market,GMST becomes only a Prince.
