Dear Sir,

As of August 1999, there were approximately $10.5 bill Singapore dollars in
circulation. Our currency in circulation is at
least 100% backed by gold and foreign reserves. Our total official foreign
reserves as at August 1999 amounts to approx US$76 bill or S$ 128 bill.
This comprises S$ 0.9 bill reserve position with the IMF, S$ 0.4 bill in
Special Drawing Rights and S$127 bill in gold and foreign exchange
reserves.
