Why wouldn't they do the same as anyone else if they've made more drives than they can sell in a quarter? Lower the price to get rid of them. Especially now that they are moving more into the merchant space rather than just captive.

Thank you for the excellent report with your points of interest.

I guess we are eventually headed for a $50 drive with the higher capacity drives being $50 + change.<g> Drive manufacturers will need to add other features such as speed or smarts to get the price of drives up. Of course these features need to be something that the consumer is willing to pay for.

Todd and Mark,
I want to thank you for the great reporting in disk drive pricing trends. I don't see the analysts doing anything as worthwhile (in fact, they seem to largely ignore the group). -Z
