>>MILAN, Italy, Sep 20, 1999 -- Yahoo! and
Wind telecommunications on Monday became the latest group to offer free
Internet subscriptions in Italy.

The consortium also said it was developing wireless services that
provide Internet access with cellular phones, which are immensely
popular in Italy.

The free-access bandwagon got rolling in Italy after telecom newcomer
Tiscali offered the first free Internet connections earlier this year.
All major telecom companies as well as some publishers have since
followed suit.

Wind, which now has more than 1 million customers, is 51 percent owned
by Italy's state electricity company, Enel; France Telecom and Deutsche
Telekom own the rest. <<<
