Microsoft recognizes that the Web is changing the way we live, work, do business, and use software. They are now articulating a plan to move Web based software into the next generation, a generation based on software and services communicating over a common Web-based substrate.

They have changed their 25 year vision statement from "A computer on every desk and in every home" to "Empower people through great software any place, any time, and on any device". It might seem like a small change, but from inside the company, I see a new energy emerging that I haven't felt since I started at the company a number of years ago.

It is reasonable criticism to say that Microsoft has been slow to change its business and software model relative to the Web. At the same time, that strategy has kept the company very profitable and growing. I believe the changes being made now will surprise skeptics while increasing that growth and profitability.

Thanks,
Mike
