MTST hitting it here!

Microtest OMNIScanner Selected as Qualified Tester for High Performance IBM ACS Cabling Systems

PHOENIX--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 20, 1999--Microtest Inc. (NASDAQ:MTST) Monday announced that the company's OMNIScanner has been selected as the qualified tester for IBM(R) Advanced Connectivity Systems worldwide.

Microtest and IBM have jointly developed OMNIScanner test cables and performance test limits for IBM Gold, Silver, Bronze+ and Bronze ACS cabling. Additionally, Microtest has secured a worldwide purchase agreement with IBM covering Microtest's network and cable testing products.

IBM has established stringent performance requirements for ACS Gold and Silver cabling systems and requires cable installers to test these systems with the proper test cords and to the proper test limits.

OMNIScanner is the industry's only cable certification tool that certifies Category 6, 5E and 5 cabling and performs measurements on Category 7 cabling. OMNIScanner is the only product capable of certifying Gold (Category 7) and Silver (Category 6) ACS cabling to IBM's strict standards.

To further ensure the proper testing of advanced cabling systems, IBM and Microtest have jointly developed advanced OMNIScanner Gold and Silver ACS test cords that far exceed draft standard patch cord performance requirements.

The two companies have also developed test limits for IBM Gold, Silver, Bronze+ and Bronze cabling performance levels. This IBM-specific cabling performance testing is available only in OMNIScanner.

Using its ScanLink software, Microtest has developed a customized software release tailored to testing IBM installations. ScanLink simplifies cable test configuration by allowing IBM certified installers to easily select pre-programmed testing and certification requirements for ACS Gold, Silver, Bronze+ and Bronze Advanced Connectivity Systems.

Only Microtest's OMNIScanner with the IBM ACS test solution allows users to test this array of IBM ACS cabling and offers test cables designed specifically for advanced ACS installations.

"The release of IBM ACS testing capability in OMNIScanner is the result of a valuable cooperation between our companies. IBM's rigorous testing validated that OMNIScanner's especially wide dynamic range makes it uniquely suited to verifying and diagnosing their advanced Gold and Silver cabling solutions.

"IBM's selection of Microtest is also a testament to our ScanLink companion PC software which was used to quickly craft an IBM-customized OMNIScanner," said David Coffin, vice president and general manager of Microtest's Network Test and Measurement division.

Coffin added: "IBM and its authorized installers worldwide now have the power and flexibility of the most advanced tester on the market, OMNIScanner, outfitted with the IBM test cords and performance thresholds to verify IBM cable installations in a single, fast, easy-to-operate tool.

"Microtest will leverage this key competitive advantage and its purchase agreement with IBM to expand OMNIScanner's global market position, especially in Europe, Asia and Latin America."

Microtest's IBM Cable Installation Test Kit, including IBM Gold and Silver test cords and IBM-specific test configuration software, for the OMNIScanner is now available worldwide through authorized Microtest distributors and resellers.

The IBM Cable Installation Test Kit software and IBM-approved Gold and Silver test cables are also available separately through distribution and directly from Microtest at microtest.com. For additional sales information, call Microtest at 800/526-9675.
