Re: ponders the demise of AMD for the first time.

That's right Investartist, Rambus and AMD are both speculative, long shot investments, the difference being that if AMD fails, it's price stays where it is or goes up in liquidation. Once rambus PCs have been independently benchmarked against equally priced non-rambus PCs, the rambus stock price will drift down to about 20% of the current price.

Intel can't afford to keep draggin rambus along much longer. They have to worry about Athlon now and can't just ignore price and performance issues anymore.

When the box builders rejected active cooling for memory chips, it became necessary to default to sleep mode (STBY) for desktops as well as laptops and rambus lost its last chance to provide a performance boost. Now it just costs a lot, runs hot, and puts system stability at risk.

I have a realistic attitude towards the risks associated with AMD - as well as its enormous upside potential. How realistic is your assesment of Rambus. If you saw that post, did you also see the posts of the pro intel posters, some of whom work at Intel, who are furious with rambus for damaging the Coppermine intro? Did you see the messages about punishing rambus for the postion that it has put intel in?

Where is rambus if Intel decides it's no longer in Intel's best interest to keep forcing rambus down everyone's throat? How may more risks will Intel assume just so rambus can make money?
