Monday September 20, 11:22 am Eastern Time Company Press Release TeleCommunication Systems Inc., TCS, Announces Mobile to IP Short Messaging Service for CDMA & TDMA ANNAPOLIS, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 20, 1999-- TeleCommunication Systems Inc. (TCS) announced today an enhanced Mobile Originated Short Message Service solution that allows mobile phone users to send short text messages to internet protocol (IP) based applications and devices. The mobile user that originates the short messages can now request, reply to or retrieve information from a host of applications including email, web content, stock trading and banking. For example, a mobile user can now reply to short messages received from business and personal contacts on the web. The mobile to IP messages are delivered by the short message service center directly to the user specified email address. Similarly, mobile users now have the ability to request bank balances, obtain flight schedules and confirm stock market transactions just as they do from their desktop. This currently available enhancement to the Mobile Originated Short Message Service solution builds upon the basic capability to address the need to send short messages from a subscriber's handset to an External Short Message Entity supporting queries on a TCP/IP network. This functionality allows communication between wireless subscribers and different services available only through a TCP/IP connected system. This feature has been integrated with the Internet Gateway server offered by TCS. Lucent and TCS's Mobile Originated Short Message Service conforms to the IS-41 standard. The solution is now available for CDMA and TDMA networks, and will be demonstrated at PCS'99, in New Orleans. Stop by the Lucent booth (No. 5544) for a live demo.
