Chandler might play backup
By Matt Winklejohn, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Falcons quarterback Chris Chandler remains
doubtful for Monday's game at Dallas with a
strained right hamstring, but coach Dan Reeves
said he might be the backup to third-year pro
Tony Graziani, who probably will start.

In the NFL, if the No. 3 quarterback plays before
the fourth quarter, the other two cannot re-enter
the game until the fourth quarter.

Then, teams can substitute all three
quarterbacks.

On Saturday, Chandler threw passes in drills,
but Graziani and Danny Kanell got all the work
with the first two offenses.

Roster rumblings

Cornerback Michael Booker (strained thigh),
defensive tackle Ben Huff (sprained ankle),
fullback Jeff Paulk and tight end Rod Monroe
were put on the early inactive list.

Wide receiver Jammi German, signed off the
practice squad Tuesday, probably will play
special teams.

Going home

General manager Harold Richardson was born in
Houston, played at Southern Methodist, and
coached at North Texas State, Texas Christian
and SMU. His father still lives in Texas. ...
Several coaches have Texas ties, and running
back Byron Hanspard (Desoto), linebacker Jeff
Kelly (LaGrange), offensive linemen Adam
Schreiber (Galveston), Calvin Collins (Beaumont)
and Jose Portilla (Houston), defensive linemen
Shane Dronett (Orange) and Ed Jasper (Troup),
and Monroe (Hearne) have Texas hometowns. ...
Vice president of corporate development Tommy
Nobis, who in 1966 was the first draft choice in
Falcons history, was a legendary linebacker at
the University of Texas. ... Pro personnel chief
Ron Hill, college personnel chief Reed Johnson
and national scout Mike Hagen began as scouts
with Dallas between 1975 and '83.

Remember me?

The Falcons made Dallas reserve defensive tackle Nathan Davis a
second-round choice in '97. But after a miserable, overweight rookie
season, he quit on the first day of training camp in '98 after taking a bunch
of diuretics--specifically, he said, Vivarin--the night before to lose weight.

When he tried to re-join the team, he was waived. In Dallas, Davis is more
inclined to talk about his five tattoos and 10 body piercings.

"When things get rough, I go get something pierced," Davis said.

Brilliant move IMO...The best thing Stewart could have done is to fall down on the five yard line and the game is won...now that would have been an even more brilliant move, but in an age of bonuses and individual play that would never happen.
