Are we confusing more than one thing. Is this good funds at a scheduled time (maybe 3 - 4 days or less to the requested payments date) or good funds on the day you transmit the request (today for a payment I want made on a day next November). I can see only the good funds version is going to survive down the road, but it should be on the day the actual processing of the payment is initiated by Checkfree, not the day I put the future request in the system. Banks could chose (and some apparently do) to consider scheduled automatic payroll deposits as good funds, especially if you have other assets at the institution or overdraft protection.

"So, my complaint is NOT the loss of float, but the constant changing of payment dates in my Quicken register."

We really shouldn't put the consumers in the position of moving their payments around from the day they requested them.

: I can see the "very good reasons" from the BANK'S point of view and THEIR "bottom line.

Competition to deliver like services for less cost will cause the banks to pass through cost saving in the long term. IMHO.
