Of course they can, AMZN is just going for a pure middleman play on this, and one which offers little value. First, the building contractors are not going to enter orders through AMZN. For the home improvement crowd, I personally find that a medium sized project takes at least three trips to the lumber/hardware store and a large project takes about three per day, usually with numerous returns. Try routing that through a server in Seattle or getting Home Depot to provide responsive delivery at a reasonable cost.
