I paddled near an island called Coron, north of another island, called Palawan. It is hard to explain Coron. A creationist would assume that on the eighth day God saw that it was good, but had a nagging feeling that something was missing, and that He then dropped way too much acid and stuck Coron on as an item of abstract art. A geologist would say that it's a limestone cap made by coral growing over an old volcano, which was subsequently upthrust by tectonic activity, allowing the limestone to erode into cliffs, pinnacles, valleys, caves, etc., all sitting in the middle of flawlessly clear water with great coral growth.

I know a geologist would say that because we had a geologist in the group.

The only people who live on the island belong to the Tagbanua tribe, and nobody is allowed to go farther than the beach (or to the one of the island's seven lakes that lies closest to the edge of the island) without permission from the Tagbanua. Nobody much tries it, since most of the beaches have sheer 60-100 meter cliffs behind them.

We paddled around part of the island (it will take 3 days to go around it, which I'm planning to do soon) on one day, spent the other paddling around a smaller island called Sangat, snorkeling, and exploring a large and very remote mangrove swamp off Culion island. It was great. Now I'm back in front of a monitor.

I'll write it up for the Canoeing and Hiking thread later.

Hard to imagine you needing help. Have all these conservatives gone all fanatic over intrusive government as soon as the proposed intrusion is into a woman's body?
