Mephisto, you're missing something. <g>

So why learn how to play the piano? You could buy a player piano?

So that's what Microsoft was all about. They're just like the guy on the late night TV infomercial selling 'learn to play the guitar like a pro in minutes'. Or kareoke. Pianists wouldn't play a Microsoft piano.

When you run out of fingers and toes, you can add, subtract, multiply and divide with small
stones.

Why insult Mr. Mephisto by calling him a geek? Is it his fault that he has no financial support for
Sun machines or UNIX shell accounts? He has to pay for his own books. He has to buy his own
PCs.

I'm not insulting Mr. Mephisto. Ask him if he's a geek, if you don't beleive me. :)

He won't have to buy books (or PCs) for much longer.

The bottom line is government and industry do NOT support basic research. Even Bill Gates has noticed and worried about the lack of support.

Bill Gates is EXTREMELY worried about basic research (to say nothing of development).
