What about the protests about the pension plans/ recapitulation recently? Will that change the numbers

I wouldn't worry too much about Lucent. Their earnings growth in the fourth quarter are expected to be a huge slowdown, down to 6 percent. Some of the other big techs have big slowdowns coming, mostly in the 5-8 percent growth range.

The article I posted earlier hinted at lack of a noticeable Y2K inventory buildup, attributing it to strong Xmas on top of strong retail buying thus far. So, we'll see whether the earlier strong equipment sales stole from later quarters.

The ones that have some of the better numbers upcoming are the semiconductor-related companies whose fundamentals can look great at the top and on the way down.
