New Orleans, La. (September 21, 1999) - Motorola today announced an industry-first: digital wireless handsets that are end user upgradable via the Internet. All iDEN® plus series handsets released beginning in 1999 will have the ability to be upgraded to allow users to take advantage of new features and applications as they become available, similar to the way individuals update software on their personal computers today.
Users will soon be able to upgrade their iDEN handsets using available flash memory. For example, users can now take advantage of new handset features such as Internet microbrowser upgrades and other applications as they become available, ultimately extending the usability and convenience of their handsets, providing additional capability and enhancing the user experience.
