Trade gap hits record (again):

July deficit reaches $25.2B as Americans send their dollars overseas

NEW YORK (CNNfn) - The nation's trade deficit widened to a record level in July, the U.S. government said Tuesday, as Americans continued spending their money in the global marketplace.


The trade deficit rose to $25.2 billion, the Commerce Department said, with the June's figure of $24.6 billion. Economists were expecting the July figure to reach $23.8 billion.

U.S. exports rose to $79.04 billion from $78.62 billion in June. Imports reached a record $104.22 billion compared with $103.23 billion in the previous month.

The goods deficit was a record $31.7 billion, while the services surplus reach $6.6 billion.
