Cobalt, res- but I suggest that it's a time-honored way of understanding other people's arguments, and trying to meet them at a point which is mutually fruitful.

Unfortunately, I've rarely seen it used as a way of *understanding,* but instead have seen it repeatedly used as an argumentative tool to dismiss the points relevant to the topic. Whether you believe in abortion in the first trimester, the second the last or never is entirely dependent on your moral point of view.

In 1933 the leader of the American Communist party William Foster wrote a book "Toward a Soviet America" where he said.

" The schools, colleges and universities will be coordinated and grouped under the National Department of Education and its state and local branches. The studies will be revolutionized, being cleansed of religious, patriotic, and other features of the bourgeoisie ideology. God will be banished from the laboratories as well as from the schools."

Without a religios or philosophical anchor the quandary of abortion becomes what gamblers call a "crap-shoot". It doesn't matter what one does. "Just do it"! Pick One! Take control of your life! Do what feels right! Be a decision- maker!

Should that be the only way we make such a decision?

Michael

I only mentioned her atheism because she had already gone into a denunciation of the religious for trying to impose themselves on others. It was actually an attempt to lighten the tone of the debate which backfired...For the rest, using such means to attempt to discredit people, or as an excuse for insulting them, may not be unusual, but it is not honored, nor honorable.....
