So far this year I don't believe that the equipment stocks have had an up week in the week following option expiration, and they have been extraordinarily strong in the period around the end of the month. As I recall they have averaged +6% a week during that time period for the first nine months. Perhaps it's just a coincidence, but I wouldn't want to be short during that time period, even in October.
