KZNerd,

Most of the time, Office applications do not push the cpu usage of my Celeron 333 up to 100%. I would hardly expect different memory technologies to make much difference in that situation. What does make a big difference is having enough RAM to avoid disc swapping.

As a non-tech person, I have no expectations of ever understanding RMBS technology. So I apologize if this is a dumb question, but does RMBS play any role in DVR's? I can't recall seeing any reference to these devices since I've started reading this board, and this sentence from a WD Press release seemed related to the overall issue

Available this month, the first generation of WD Performer hard drives is designed to provide the features most important to the home entertainment user -- a steady flow of data, quiet operation, and the ability to handle multiple streams of data for simultaneous viewing and recording.

Thanks

KZNerd, <Too bad the majority of the market place is not real.>

I think Toprani is saying that the benchmarks are misleading people into believing that there is no performance benefit whatsoever, no matter whether the application is high-bandwidth like video editing or whether it's a garden-variety office application like MS Word. That's painting an overly simplistic negative view on things.

As some of us may already know, reality is much more complicated. And Toprani realizes this, or else he wouldn't need to lay out the conditions for seeing the immediate benefits of Rambus.
