Ah, good, I've winkled it out. Well, that may sound menacing, it's more intended to be an exclamation of pleasure, that something I've been trying to draw out is on the table. I'd like to examine together, if you care to.

And it may sound personal, but it isn't meant to be about you personally, but about a way of looking at things.

You frequently argue about "appealing to common values" and say "we think it is better to be one kind of a society than another." And that strikes me off kilter a bit. It's the type of argument a politician would make to a group of people when either he, as an elected official, plans to vote a certain way, or he, as a candidate, hopes to be elected so that he can vote a certain way. It seems to me, anyway. Not just that, frequently judges put language like that in an opinion. But judges are allowed to be magisterial, they are sort of like royalty, anyway. The personification of the law. Whereas, no one person speaks for common values.

One reason it strikes me off kilter is that, taking, for example, this thread, it's clear that there is no consensus.

Perhaps with the different perspectives you were exposed to during your upbringing, you've discerned values that many different religions and philosophies seem to share. Are they what you are talking about?

I hope you are not offended by these questions.
