Vanguard's indexed REIT mutual fund is ideal for many Vanguard customers, but it isn't suitable for stock investors who trade in and out more than once a year. You can't transfer into this particular fund except by mail, and you pay a penalty for early withdrawal.

My wife has it, but then she's the ideal mutual fund investor, as she has no appetite for trading. She just wants to buy and forget. Despite the attraction of very low fees, it wouldn't fit my style as a stock investor who often holds a long position only for a few months. I buy the REITs themselves, instead.
