Cabletron and Unisys in network agreement
ROCHESTER, N.H., Sept 21 (Reuters) - Cabletron Systems Inc.(NYSE:CS - news) and Unisys Corp. (NYSE:UIS - news) on Tuesday said they've reached an agreement that calls for Unisys to provide on-site service for Cabletron's entire internetworking hardware and software systems.

Rochester, N.H.-based Cabletron, which makes switches and other hardware and software to transfer information between computers and networks, said the alliance would extend its own service operations -- GlobalNetwork Technology Services -- to a wider range of multi-national customers.

''As networks gain prominence as strategic business assets, network availability is increasingly critical - and downtime is intolerable,'' Earle Humphreys, executive vice president, GlobalNetwork Technology Services, said in a statement.

Shares of Blue Bell, Pa.-based Unisys early Tuesday afternoon were down 1-3/8 to 47-15/16. Shares of Cabletron were down 1-7/8 to 17-1/8.

Siemens has it own service org, this would create another hurdle to a take over offer. IMHO I don't think siemens will be the buyer, Siemens has agreements with 3com, and it would be more likely that siemens would buy 3com, after 3com gets rid of palm. But hey who knows and I'm still long in CS.
