If the company is buying back shares they will be doing it on the open market according to the release and not at a price any higher than the last trade. You could be right but I believe the objective they had in mind was to support the stock price from further erosion and buying in a block wouldn't achieve that.

I am a long term Shareholder, and a buyer today.
