Stew, Could you advise who are the major manufacturers of set top boxes in the US beside Hughes and SA. Is GI still (or is that now NextLevel or whatever)? Others? Thanks. - Eric -

RRanney, The guide you received from DirecTV was made possible because of the Gemstar technology in the box. To clarify Stew's comment, DirecTV also uses an older StarSight product, or at least they did at the time of the Stephens report. Henry hopes to convince DirecTV to upgrade to the advertising-capable newer product. As it turns out, you apparently switched from one Gemstar product to another one. --Mike Buckley

Stew: The guide you received from DirecTV was made possible because of the Gemstar technology in the box. All DirecTV OEMs, including Hughes, are Gemstar licensees. The Starsight guide is also Gemstar. You must be subscribing to Cox cable with a Scientific Atlanta box. ROTFLMAO......your due diligence is awesome. BTW, can you tell us the last 5 digits on the serial number, and also at what hour on what day in what year the STB was manufactured? Moreover, if you cannot provide this in-depth information, can you really feel comfortable with your investment acumen in Gemstar? Question for the thread...does anybody know more about a company than NY Stew for gemstar? Maybe Paul Engel for Intel? There ought to be a Hall of Fame for these guys. By comparison, I'm just hoping to make the starting lineup and be an everyday player. apollo
