Alan,

Re: AMD.

Even before Daimler was the government bail-out of Chrysler in the 70's. AMD doesn't employ enough people to get a government "free pass". They do have enough people, however, to get an Intel "free pass". Intel will make sure that AMD does not hurt itself too badly. Kind of like taking matches away from small children, and making sure they don't walk into the street without looking both ways.

Are you sure you don't work there, Dan? <G>

Dave

Re: how many Chrysler did YOU pick up at $5...

None, I was too busy laughing at my buddy who was so obviously bereft of any sense. Chrysler was on the verge of bankruptcy, Lee Iacocca was charging around talking about some K platform that was going to bring them back. Why should I risk even a little money on them? They didn't have a chance right? General Motors had two thirds of the market and would have had more if they weren't worried about antitrust. It is inconceivable that GM could ever own less then 65% of the market, right?. So it would have been nuts to buy Chrysler. So I didn't.
