I wondered outloud here a bit ago about Grace and 11mmth post....

...didn't see that SI made a 'deal' out of it or not...

...don't know if there is a relationship between posts and volume for the ENTIRE market or not....

...don't know if there is a relationship between 'an event a day'...(i.e. Mr. Greenspan, labor market, earthquakes and floods, inflation, Y2K fears, the press hype, etc etc etc....

...and then wonder if there is a way to check the number of posts on any of the other sites....is there an increase on any site?

playa,

I couldn't agree more on the importance of branding. I personally do not feel enough is being done to promote the company. I never see advertisements of any sort other than banners on SI.

I sent Russell a PM some time ago with my point of view on branding and didn't so much as receive a form letter telling me where I could put my suggestions. So much for him reading all his mail.

If Go2Net thinks they can wait for the Charter connection, they are badly mistaken. That is the best way to become "roadkill" on the Internet Superhighway. We, as shareholders seem to be promoting this company more than the company. Possibly there is more going on than I am aware of, but that is just it....I, nor others, are not aware of it. When you brand, you tell the world who you are, you brand your name, you brand an identity, you brand a logo. I am constantly explaining to friends, associates, relatives, neighbors and of course, others in my golf 4some, just who and what Go2Net is.

I agree, Go2Net has so far, come up the hard way.....but it is time to stop relying on word of mouth from others and start tooting your own horn.

play: I will not speak to quantity, only quality. We are a gold mine! Anecdotally, look at these demographics! Can you really imagine many other sites better? Here we are planning a trip to Maui at 200 bucks a night? As goes the market, so goes our pocketbooks, and the market is doing just fine, thank you very much.

As Steve Harmon has said, it's all about community. I don't know about you, but I live, eat and breath SI. Do you have any idea how much that is worth??

How gnet chooses to translate that addiction to $ is their affair. In the meantime, I am one happy clam!!!

I suspect there is a correlation between SI post count and online brokerage activity. And in fact, the e-brokers are in a bit of a bear market, fwiw.

BTW today I saw a Roadway truck in the bay area with the shark ad for gnet (When you're done surfing) on the side. It was a pretty small truck as trucks go, but the ad was pretty memorable. I guess it must be something from a long time ago... anyway ads on trucks are pretty effective, imo, better than billboards.
