The reverse holds true about the nonsense of TDMA carriers converting to CDMA. The economics and risk of doing that on a mass scale as oppose to a single market like Sprint did in DC, is too large. Nor will you see Europe or Vodaphone Europe dismantle it's GSM based systems and replace it with CDMA. At best you will get an overlay short term, but all the technologies are well established and entrenched for the next 5-10 years. You also run the risk of facing a consumer backlash, if you attempt to have them buy new phones. Everyone is going to dance with the girl they brung J.
