Cirruslvr - <PB, looks like Intel is doing an AMD launch. More OEMs may announce systems compared to AMD's norm, but based on that quote the quantity offered will be a MUCH lower % than the INtel norm. First it was DELAYED, now not many OEMs systems will use it it.>

Fair enough. I will concede this doesn't look like the smoothest thing Intel has ever done. I don't have any great insight as to how this will affect the overall market. But as you noticed, Micron is still going with Intel uP's. As Paul said, ~$600 uP for a ~$30 chipset. I'd live with it. Also, 700-800MHz uP's are obviously not very far away. RAMBUS is more compelling with higher speeds.

It looks like to me that Intel just plain mis-judged how the market would react to this platform with 600MHz top speeds.

You'll also notice that Micron is upbeat about the i840, so I guess not all is lost even in chipset land, although this platform is not going to come out for a few months. It is on track though, as far as I know.

BTW, I have extremely limited internal visibility on the chipset business.
