Putting "degrees" on our sins is the way the law works and humankind looks at it that way as well.
We have first degree murder, second degree murder and third degree which I think is "manslaughter".
We also have misdemeanors and felonies and a host of other listed as "breaking of the law".
The Judges have guidelines and pronounce probation to life to death.
God's way of looking at sin is summed up by James 2
If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture, "love your neighbor as yourself", you are doing right. But if you show favoritism, you sin and are convicted by the law as lawbreakers. For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it. For he who said, "Do not commit adultery," also said, "Do not murder." If you do not commit adultery but do commit murder, you have become a lawbreaker. Speak and act as those who are going to be judged by the law that gives freedom, because judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment!
In God's sight, sin is sin whether we steal a penny, a dime, a quarter, dollar, or hundreds, thousands, or millions. Whether is is a penny or a million, God says we have broken the law. Humankind tends to "wink" at the penny thieves, but the big-time embezzlers, etc. our laws will take them on.
However, God doesn't "wink" at sin, be it "small" or "great" but he IS MERCIFUL, so if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

Wishing you a great day.

Brumar89,

"Now let's be truthful - you know you do not feel the same guilt over this that you would feel if you'd murdered someone. You say you believe all sins are equal - I think because you think you're supposed to believe this. Yet you know you don't believe it in your heart or you would feel the same guilt in your heart as if you'd just committed murder. Why pretend? Should we make a pretence of believing things with our mouth that we don't and can't in our hearts? Isn't that a lie?"

Truly in my heart, murder seems worse than lying.... But because I feel this way, does that make it right? Of course not! And when it contradicts God's word, then it is definitely wrong! I have a lot of lustful, sinful feelings in my body that are wrong.

I answered you before, I am guilty of judging the world by the worlds standards rather than God's because I am a sinner. And that is why I need a savior. But in God's eye's, as I referenced before, sin is sin! That's what is important, what God thinks!

And to be perfectly honest, I never physically murdered before. So I don't know how it would feel inside. But if I lie, I feel really awful and guilty. So if it feels worse than that, and I think it would for me, I don't want to have anything to do with those feelings....

God Bless,
Steve
