Snas and thread,
Intel is not getting the acceptance of it's 820 chipset for RDRAM that it had projected. We still need to overcome resistance on the part of memory manufacturers. See article:

I wonder if the world had 18,000 clues before the Nazis marched into the Sudentenland?

Chruchill, The Gathering Storm, would have said "Yes." He also said they were ignored by all who could have prevented WWII.

Note: The following is expressed warmly and with only a little sarcasm ...

>>UncleWest posted 18,000 items appeared on AltaVista when searching for "Rambus". I just did the same for "Gemstar", and uncovered ~ 2000 items.

Thanks for that indicator. Now I feel much better about my MapQuest (168,000 items).

;o)

Sorry, back to lurking and waiting for my manual.

Gemstar is a gorilla candidate, and may have crossed the chasm; Mike B. seems on the verge of openly declaring it a fullfledged gorilla in the making.

Not at all, Apollo. It's a great chimp with the promise of a gorilla, but the turf is still up for grabs at least until a tornado comes along, blows the leaves off the trees, and makes it easier to see who the real gorilla is.
