ATHM had me worried early on but adding in the 36's seems to be worth the risk. More news before the close:

Dell offers ExciteHome high-speed Internet service

Reuters Story - September 22, 1999 15:42

ROUND ROCK, Texas, Sept 22 (Reuters) - Dell Computer Corp, , the world's No. 2 personal computer maker, on Wednesday said it teamed up with Internet network ExciteHome Corp. to allow customers to order ExciteHome's high-speed cable Internet service when they call Dell to buy a Dimension desktop or Inspiron notebook PC.

Dell will begin the ordering service Thursday, Redwood City,
Calif.-based ExciteHome and Dell said. Customers living in an area serviced by one of ExciteHome's cable partners, will be able to place an order for the Home high-speed cable Internet service directly from a Dell customer service representative.

The deal marks the first time the ExciteHome's Home high-speed cable Internet service can be ordered through a PC manufacturer and is part of ExciteHome's plan to step up service and subscriber growth while reducing the time and cost of customer order processing.

"You can now get your PC and Home broadband access from a single source," Tom Jermoluk, ExciteHome's chief executive, said in a statement. "ExciteHome and Dell are the first to make this happen."

Janet Mountain, vice president and general manager of Dell's consumer business, said providing high-speed Internet is one of Dell's priorities because it can deliver telecommuting capabilities, real-time video news feeds and the ability to purchase music, services, software and information over the Internet. The cable connection can deliver information over the Internet up to 100 times faster than a regular dial-up
modem, the companies said.

The Home high-speed cable Internet service is currently available in more than 89 markets, such as San Diego, Dallas, Nashville, Philadelphia, and central New Jersey. Long-distance telecommunications and cable giant AT&T is ExciteHome's largest shareholder.

Nearly half of all home PC users cite high-speed Internet access as the
No. 1 desired feature in their home in the future, according to a survey
by Dell.
