QUALCOMM Announces Commercial Availability of its Tri-mode Portable CDMA Satellite Phone to Operate on the Globalstar System NEW ORLEANS, PCIA PCS '99 Booth #4120, Sept. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- QUALCOMM Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM - news) today announced the availability of its tri-mode Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) satellite portable phone to operate on the Globalstar(TM) low-earth-orbit (LEO) satellite communications system. The tri-mode portable phone provides access to the Globalstar network, an advanced combination of satellite and wireline technology, as well as access to cellular networks using QUALCOMM's cdmaOne(TM) or analog technology. The handset is the first in the world to eliminate size, dimension and cost barriers of previous satellite phones brought to market.
