QUALCOMM Announces Commercial Availability of
its Tri-mode Portable CDMA Satellite Phone to
Operate on the Globalstar System

NEW ORLEANS, PCIA PCS '99 Booth #4120, Sept. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- QUALCOMM Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM
- news) today announced the availability of its tri-mode Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) satellite portable phone to
operate on the Globalstar(TM) low-earth-orbit (LEO) satellite communications system.

The tri-mode portable phone provides access to the Globalstar network, an advanced combination of satellite and wireline
technology, as well as access to cellular networks using QUALCOMM's cdmaOne(TM) or analog technology. The handset is
the first in the world to eliminate size, dimension and cost barriers of previous satellite phones brought to market.

''We're excited to introduce our new CDMA Globalstar handset to the marketplace,'' said Jerry Beckwith, president,
QUALCOMM Wireless Systems. ''The commercial availability of our Globalstar phone represents a significant step forward
as the smallest and lightest CDMA satellite phone in the world.''

The QUALCOMM Globalstar GSP-1600 satellite phone offers clear digital voice communications and supports features such
as global roaming, position location display, short messaging service (SMS), paging, caller identification (ID) and user interface
for multiple languages.

QUALCOMM and AirTouch are also responsible for the development of the Globalstar gateways. The Globalstar gateways
interconnect with local wireline and cellular service providers to offer global roaming, cellular extension and remote services to
all market segments.

The Globalstar system will consist of 48 low-earth-orbit satellites, which will provide seamless communications services
worldwide. Globalstar is the only company that will be able to provide two or more signals to a user to ensure call completion.
The continuous multiple satellite coverage and path diversity will enable Globalstar service anywhere in the world.

The Globalstar system is designed to provide affordable satellite-based digital voice services to a broad range of subscribers
and users worldwide. Globalstar will meet the needs of cellular users and global travelers who roam outside of cellular coverage
areas, as well as residents of under-served markets who will use Globalstar's fixed-site phones to satisfy their needs for basic
telephony.
